On August 4th it was a real privilege to be asked by the British Legion to hold a short service at the War Memorial to commemorate the centenary of the start of WW1. This was a short service and attended by over forty people.
In the evening again many came together to hold a candlelit vigil between 10pm and 11pm. Our thanks go to the British Legion and to the Parish Council for arranging this very poignant experience.
It is hoped that the PCC will be able to create a remembrance garden in the churchyard where people can sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our beautiful village. In this centenary year we thought we could create this garden by planting 21 rose bushes in memory of the 21 servicemen of this village who lost their lives in the first world war.

We had a very successful Art weekend in June. It is amazing how much local talent there is around the Isle of Oxney. We were very lucky to have 17 artists and photographers exhibiting their work. We served refreshments and some visitors ventured up the tower to enjoy the views. If you were lucky you would have seen our "resident artist" Karl Terry with his easel painting some magnificent pictures of the views one can only appreciate from the top of our tower. |
